The Melanesian Spearhead Group Secretariat has applauded Papua New Guinea for hosting the fifth Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival.
Director General, Peter Forau while congratulating the Government said PNG is unique and blessed with diversified culture and traditions that has united its people.
It was all smiles, excitement and entertainment yesterday at the fifth Melanesian Arts Culture Festival official opening, last night at Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.
Contingents were led into the main arena by the Gulf Province, Toare Masks dancers.
Gifts were then presented to the PNG Government, received by Governor General Sir Michael Ogio and witnessed by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.
Melanesian Spearhead Group Director General, Peter Forau refreshed the call for the preservation and promotion of culture and traditions.
While congratulating the Melanesian countries for their attendance and performance, same time Mr Forau challenged individuals to make it their business uphold traditional ways.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Boka Kondra said the theme: ‘Celebrating Cultural Diversity’ is fitting, with many different traditional performances that will be showcased in this big international event.
