Former National Rugby League Star and Kumuls Legend, Marcus Bai, said PNG can effectively enter a team in the NRL after a few years. His words were backed by PNGRFL Chairman, Sandis Tsaka.
Though the PNG Hunters have successfully conquered the Queensland Intrust Super Cup by winning this year’s premiership after only 4 years in the competition, Former Kumul, Marcus Bai, feels PNG still has a few more years before it can enter a team into the NRL Competition.
Bai said in order to have top class players, PNG will need to have a successful Junior Development program.
PNGRFL Chairman, Sandis Tsaka, also shared the same sentiments, saying though it’s a vision in the long run, and their main focus is to get the domestic competitions and programs in order.
Bai is part of the PNG Kumuls 2017 coaching staff for the World Cup. He said PNG is heading in the right direction, with the recent success of the Kumuls in the Pacific Test and the SP PNG Hunters ISC Victory.
He challenged current Rugby League players to aspire to be better than him and other PNG Rugby League legends.
