Malaysians Raise K1 Million for Charity

by Jeremy Mogi – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

A staggering K1 million has been for charity by the Malaysian Association of Papua New Guinea, following their annual corporate charity drive.

Various business houses in the nation’s capital were part of the corporate dinner and charity golf day, which assists with fundraising for charity organisations in Port Moresby.

The MBC charity drive started in 2001, consisting of a corporate golf challenge and a dinner and auction.

K27,000 was raised from 27 participating teams in the first year, but it wasn’t until three years later that they were able to raise funds over K100,000.

Fundraising Chairman, Ivan Lu, was quick to point out that regardless of the amount of money given, the drive was more of a social responsibility.

He further stated that to date, the association had raised almost K6 million.

2015 alone has seen them hit over K900,000 all before this past weekend’s additional efforts.

A total of 19 charitable organisations will benefit from the fundraiser.
