Less than 13 days remain until the start of the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup.
A number of key events have already taken place, with the local organizing committee confident of delivering a world class event.
Major partnerships have been set with key enterprises such as PNG Power Limited, Telikom and Air Niugini.
Key areas in logistical support are also in place, with the Local Organizing Committee on track for delivery.
In terms of security, there will be approximately 200 Defence Force Officers, 60 Correctional Service Officers and about 940 police officers. Five private security firms will bring on an additional 360 personnel to assist the security team.
Running in line with FIFA’s new focus on women participation, 43 women referees and assistant referees will be in the country to officiate the matches.
Earlier, during the launch of the winner’s trophy Tatjana Haenni, FIFA’s head of Women’s football, had said, the tournament was also a fantastic opportunity to address other issues off the pitch.
Local contractor, Pingcomm Ltd has also completed the laying of pipes for fibre optic cabling at the Bava Mini Stadium and PNG Football stadium. This will enable the tournament officials along the field of play to have access to internet service during the tournament.
Local Organizing committee, CEO Seamus Marten has said, while it there had been difficulties earlier, things are now falling into place.
Four matches will kick off the tournament on Sunday 13th November.
Sweden will take on the People’s Republic of Korea; Spain will meet Canada, and world number one Japan to face off against Nigeria. PNG will play Brazil.
With the home side, departing to New Zealand last week for final preparations. Tickets for the event go on sale tomorrow, with the prices, affordable for spectators to watch the world class event.
