PNG’s Pool Matches Confirmed

Papua New Guinea is now fully aware of their competition, come the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

Ireland and Wales, qualified for the World Cup, following their top placing in the Rugby League European Federation.

Papua New Guinea will play Wales in their opening match, in Port Moresby on the 28th October 2017, and then Ireland on the November 5 date. The final match against USA will be on November 12.

While PNG sits below USA and Fiji on the world ranks – the nation’s home grown Kumuls, unlike any other football code in the country, has had the most exposure. They have gained from lead-up matches in the Hunters program, the annual Pacific Test Match, and PM’s XIII.

Although Rugby League powerhouses, New Zealand, Australia and England will be tipped as the top contenders for the next edition of the World Cup – the Pacific’s talent will be out to surprise.

2016 has been a year of underdog victories for Fiji, Samoa and PNG.
