Governor of Hela Province, Anderson Agiru, has stated that he is committed to building the human resource of Hela Province.
Today, the Governor presented school fee subsidies for Hela students studying in tertiary institutions in the country.
The Hela Provincial Government has been subsidising school fees for its tertiary students for the past three years.
Agiru held a news conference on various issues today after a long absence due to health reasons.
His immediate concern was the development of Hela’s human resources.
K100,000 was given to University of Papua New Guinea and the University of Technology, while Pacific Adventist University, Divine Word University, University of Goroka and the Institute of Business Studies all received K40,000.
The Governor says the provincial government was not able to facilitate this earlier due to shortfalls in internal revenue.
Hela Province, though home to the LNG Project, has not seen much tangible development but Agiru believes empowering the human resource of Hela will move the province forward.
