Weather forecaster from the PNG National Weather Service, Jimmy Gomoga, explains to EMTV News that the dry season and cold weather is expected to last until late this year and may go onto next year just like the 1997 dry season.
With Port Moresby currently experiencing cold nights, temperatures have been between 18 and 17 degree Celsius in the southern region. While other centres like Southern Highlands have reported hail storms and Kundiawa town is also facing low water supply.
National weather service has recorded temperature falling to 14-12 degree Celsius in the highlands region. This may be able to explain why districts like Ialibu-Pangia are currently having hail storms.
Gomoga explains that cold weather is caused by low pressure winds coming in from the current El Nino being pushed towards Papua New Guinea.
The next rain fall is expected in November but will be below average.
