Gold Nuggets School Kriket Trophy launched in Oro

The Gold Nuggets School Kriket Trophy Competition was launched in Oro province last weekend.

The 2015 School Cricket competition was launch in Popondetta Primary School, in the presence of very much enthusiastic cricket officials and youngsters.

Cricket PNG Game Development Manager, Gayan Loku, said Cricket PNG is very excited to launch the Gold Nuggets School Kriket Trophy in Popondetta and this year the association is looking to expend the Gold Nuggets Schoool Kriket Trophy to all cricket regions around PNG.

Cricket PNG believes it is a very important program in their pathway to breed future Barramundis and Lewas players.

Mr Loku said Oro has already produced a PNG international player, with Sailose Ambo being selected in the Pacific MMI PNG Lewas team that competed in the ICC EAP Women’s Trophy in Japan in 2014. She will also be competing in this year’s Gold Nuggets School Kriket Trophy and will be role model for boys and girls who dream of one day representing PNG.

The Gold Nuggets School Kriket Trophy in Oro will feature three (3) Primary Schools competing in the Under 17 Boys and Under 17 Girls Divisions, while two (2) Secondary Schools will be competing in the Under 19 Boys and Under 19 Girls Divisions.

The competition will be conducted at Popondetta Primary School and Matrys Secondary School every Saturday, with the Grand Final scheduled for Saturday 20th June, 2015.  

The Gold Nuggets School Kriket Trophy is the Hard-Ball School Kriket, targeted at Secondary Schools in PNG. The program was first launched in 2014, with Cricket PNG conducting 17 competitions, across 5 regions with over 1,400 boys and girls playing in the Gold Nuggets School Kriket Trophy in the first year.
