Gore: Expand Higher And Technical Institutions

The Higher and Technical Education Sectors in the Nation will be expanded to create more places for both school-leavers, and non-school leavers.

This is the first priority for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Minister and Member for Sohe, Delilah Gore.

Speaking during the 59th University of Papua New Guinea’s second graduation session in Port Moresby, Gore said the government is already working closely with provincial and local level governments, to support and develop new institutes and colleges.

She said they will expand technical and vocational education through the new in-country scholarship, and will also increase the Government contribution for TESAS awards.

Gore has tasked the Office of Higher Education to produce a new funding model for the sector, to place the universities on a more sustainable financial basis into the future.

“The new model will ensure that Government knows what it is purchasing when it supports the universities, based on the actual costs of educating a graduate,” Gore said.
