GG meets Commonwealth Secretary-General

Governor General Sir Michael Ogio met with Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma, at Government House on Tuesday.

Mr. Sharma is inthe country for the 8th Commonwealth Youth MinistersMeeting.

He pointed out that lack of opportunities exist for youths coming out from universities with very limited jobs.

Thisthen requires a consolidated effort from all concerned authorities not just government alone.

Promoting lLeadersip among youths is one way of empowering our youths.

Mr. Sharma said, he is also confident this meeting will providethe global community useful insights towards addressingthe issue of youths.

The meeting was officially launched last night atthe Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.

Withthetheme “Development Through a Youth Lens”, representatives from different Youth Caucuses spoke about how strong youth involvement and support could achieve positive results for youths not only inthe commonwealth but aroundthe globe.

One youth said youth engagement is crucial to delivering development solutions, andthe Commonwealth must open up legal gateways to participation and accountability.
