Fun with a purpose

What do 600 children, 110 adult helpers, 600 doughnuts and 200 loaves of banana bread have in common? These are just some ofthe numbers that help describethe Tok Pisin Vacation Beble School held in Ukarumpa, EHP. Children from all over Aiyura Valley attendedthe five day event. Over 110 adults assisted inthe program, many ofthem from twelve local churches. Thetheme ofthe week wasthe “Armour of God”, which was taken from Ephesians 6:11-18. Beble lessons each day highlighted a different aspect ofthe verses. Many ofthe children memorizedthe entire Scripture section.

Althoughthere was a lot of rain duringthe week and some ofthe children had difficult coming due to swollen rivers and flooded conditions,the wether didn’trsquo;t dampen any ofthe children’s excitement. Besidesthe Beble lesson,the program included times of enthusiastic singing, andthe children were fascinated bythe puppet and drama teams which stimulated much laughter. There was plenty of time leftover for activities and games which rounded outthe mornings.

 

Forty-eight UkarumpaInternational School students’were involved inthe Vacation Beble School. They participated in all aspects ofthe program, includingthe worship band, teaching and assistant teaching, photography, videography, technical services and general help. Their help was especially needed during snack time as over 3500 servings were distributed duringthe week.

 

Overall,the Vacation Beble School was considered a huge success. Over seventy children talked to teachers specifically about salvation ortheir spiritual growth. Plans are being made for 2014 whenthe organisers are hoping to hold three simultaneous Vacation Beble Schools in various parts of Aiyura Valley.
