Parents and guardians will have to dig deeper into their pockets this year as universities fees continue to increase.
Recently, parents and students of the University of Papua New Guinea expressed frustration at the increase of fees for the 2018 academic year.
However, DHERST Secretary, Father Jan Czuba, said he supports the move by UPNG and other state universities to increase fees.
According to DHERST, state universities are allowed to make independent decisions. This includes the amount of tuition fees charged every year.
After receiving complaints from parents, Fr Jan had spoken to UPNG’s Acting Vice Chancellor.
In the meantime, parents must not continue to rely on the government for funds, because paying tuition fee is part of their responsibility.
