by Bethanie Harriman – EM TV News, Goroka

Datec have further expanded their reach across the country, opening a new store today in Goroka. Attended by both Datec CEO, Trilochana Reddy, and Telikom Group CEO, Michael Donnelly, both men said that bringing vital technology to the region is critical to the development of PNG.

Both CEOs said the two companies aim to bring vital technological services to the fingertips of Papua New Guineans.

Telikom PNG and subsidiary Datec are providing a variety of services from telecommunication, ICT, data storage, learning and device systems engineering.

Donnelly said Telikom Group wants to economically empower Papua New Guineans by providing technology to help them advance their skills.

“Telikom is building a whole new transmission infrastructure across the country, what that does is allow locations like Goroka to have much faster Internet, more capability and more accessibility,” said Donnelly.

“People begin to use information technology over and above just making a phone call, they begin to skill themselves, to do online learning, online health, banking, learning, access online education and let alone start a business.”

Datec CEO, Trilochana Reddy, said the company would open branches right throughout the country starting in Mt.Hagen, Madang and then to other parts.

“Telikom can bring the solutions to the customers, retailers and corporate clients,” said Reddy.

Goroka town is expanding fast, quickly becoming the gateway to the highlands region.

Those increased numbers of people moving to the area are fast becoming exposed to the evolving world of ICT and mobile phones.

The Eastern Highlands Governor, Julie Soso, officially opened the new branch at the event today.
