IBS Warriors Take Out Pure Water Piranhas in Cricket

By Jeremy Mogi – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

The IBS Warriors have taken out the Pacific MMI, Don’t Drink and Drive Big Bash, defeating the Pure Water Piranhas in an entertaining final at the Amini Park.

Led by New Zealander Mark Greatbatch, the Warriors strong first innings performance saw them win by a comfortable fifty eight runs. While a bottom order collapse had seen them struggling, a good early batting performance, saw the side in yellow, race to a hundred and twenty, halfway through the innings.

Australian Cricket Legend Brad Hodge, hit a superb 78 runs to place his team in a respectable position, but it wasn’t enough to see his team through. Hodge who played for Australia from 2005 to 2008, was also confident that PNG was taking the rights step to improve their performances internationally.

Australian woman’s coach and former test Cricketer, Cathryn Fitzpatrick, who had played with the PMMI Marlins said she was impressed with the level of cricket being played.

The Pacific MMI Legends big bash, is Cricket PNG’s major contribution to the Don’t Drink and Drive campaign, which has been running since 2009.
