Chairman of the Hela Election Steering Committee, William Bando, wants security tightened in Hela as polling looms.
Bando said Hela is unpredictable, and the joint security forces must be stationed in all centres.
He said despite the completion of the Gun Surrender Operation, those involved are on the loose, and might cause issues. He said polling is upon them, and security must be a priority.
However Bando has received overwhelming guarantees by the Police Commissioner and PNGDF Commander that Security for Hela is a priority with the joint forces working together.
This will be Hela’s second National Election, but will be a day polling.
The Provincial Election Manager said a day might be a worry for polling officials, given the remoteness of some polling venues. According to Tipa, Hela has nearly 200,000 registered eligible voters.
Voters have less than 2 days left before polling. But some have criticized the awareness carried out by authorities in regard to the LPV system.
Hela will go to the polls tomorrow, Monday June 26th.
