An ancient old belief ofthe Gogodala tribe of Western Province has interested international Anthropologists.
The Gogodala’s believethey are decedents fromthe “lost tribes” of Israel and it’s not just speculation.
A new study by geneticists inthe United States suggests that Jews have a particular genetic signature. A team of Anthropologists including Jewish Rabbi’s arrived inthe country on Sunday to conduct follow-up studies.
The visiting team was led by Tudor Parfittoprofessor of Modern Jewish Studies atthe School of Oriental and African Studies in London. They were welcomed at JacksonsInternational Airport in Port Moresby by a congregation of Gogodala people. It was a return trip for Prof. Tudor.
Prof. Tudor initially came in 2003 and collected DNA specimen. He returned this time with Rabbi’s from New York and a delegation fromthe FloridaInternational University to continue withthe research.
Alreadythe Gogodala’s have made headlines on a Jewish news website. The article acknowledges genetic studies been carrlied out onthe genetic signature carrlied by decedents of Jews.
The study shows that within specific communities, Jews are as closely related as 4th or 5th cousins.
