Female Cricket Legend, Lisa Sthalekar, says the sport of cricket encourages respect on and off the pitch, and for everyone to be involved in ‘the fight against violence’. She states this message should be maintained throughout all sports, to discourage the act of violence.
Sthalekar and three other Cricket legends arrived today, in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, in support of Pacific MMI ‘Don’t Drink and Drive’ and the Coalition for Change (CFC). CFC is a community based advocacy group, working towards achieving cultural change in PNG, regarding violence against women and children.
Sthalekar was pleased with the participation which PNG Cricket is receiving and said cricket is a sport that encourages respect.
Accompanying her are three other cricket legends, New Zealander, Chris Martin; Former Australian Cricketer and coach, Geoff Marsh; and Geoffrey Lawson.
The Former Cricketer will have an information session with the Papua New Guinea Women’s National team, the Lewas, tomorrow. Emphasis will be given to experience sharing and more importantly respect on and off the pitch.
All four legends will also be visiting schools as part of the ‘Kriket Blo Olgeta’ program where, they will address Junior Development opportunities.
