The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (Unitech) is well into preparations to introduce a compulsory aptitude test for school leavers.
The test is for Grade 12 school leavers who wish to be considered for admission in all courses for 2017 and beyond.
The aptitude test will be conducted on November 7-9 this year.
Dr. Ora Renagi, Deputy Vice Chancellor, says the university’s council and management have approved polices to ensure a fairer, more transparent selection process.
The purpose is to ensure that only candidates who have the capacity to benefit from tertiary education are selected.
The Special Tertiary Admissions Test or STAT, is offered by the Australian Council for Education Research.
This test will be conducted for the first time in the country.
Unitech will use this in addition to the Grade 12 examination results of school leavers to screen all entry applications.
Each Grade 12 applicant must pre-register with the Australian Council for Education Research, or ACER website, with a payment of a non-refundable test fee of K100.
Applicants should be able to open and complete an account and communicate with ACER regarding their admission number.
Only candidates who have valid and current ID cards and an acer admission ticket will be allowed to take the test at the allocated venue.
