The visual art industry in Papua New Guinea is struggling to develop.
For artists in this field, there is little recognition in terms of exhibiting their work and ensuring their unique work is valued.
In an effort to create their own space, six artists have come together to promote their work and will begin next month with an art exhibition in Port Moresby.
All six of the artists will showcase a variety of art work in forms such as painting, ink illustration, sculpture, prints and interactive art.
They say their collaboration, which has resulted in a group called PNG Art Evolution, is about holding onto the unique aspect of PNG, while also advancing into the future.
Larry Santana, a name famous in the PNG art world is part of this group.
During the show next month which will be on August 13 and 14, each artist will showcase a minimum of five and maximum of 10 new pieces.
The exhibition will also be about showcasing how modern technology can be incorporated into visual arts such as the transformation of a painting into an interactive board.
The other goal of the exhibition will be raising awareness on the welfare of women and children in the country and contributing towards work in that area.
For each piece sold, the artist will donate 20 per cent to a chosen charity.
