Forty-eight Hours Ultimatum

A call by airline captain, James Makop, representing the aviation industry, and Human Rights lawyer Moses Murray, asking for the Prime Minister to step down within 48 hours has been refuted by a number of state owned enterprises.

Executives from Eda Ranu held a news conference this afternoon to clarify their position.

The 48 hour ultimatum called on citizens to stop work on Wednesday this week but this has been rejected by Eda Ranu, PNG Air and Air Niugini.

Eda Ranu CEO, Hennery Mokono, shrugged off rumours of Eda Ranu shutting water to the nation’s capital.

“We play a vital role in providing water and waste management in the nation’s capital. Eda Ranu will not be taking part in any stop work protest,” he said.

While President of the Eda Ranu Staff Association, Kalim Tamarihas, offered assurances that Eda Ranu workers are united and will not sabotage water supply, nor join the stop work protest planned for Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Air Niugini today posted on their Facebook page that flight services will operate as per normal.

PNG Air has also confirmed that flights and services will be normal on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, a three-man Supreme Court bench will make the ruling on whether or not to recall parliament to debate the vote of no confidence.
