Sporting Venues to be Upgraded

By Dion Kombeng – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

The government will assist in seeing all venues upgraded, following the Pacific Games, a major plus for sport in the capital.

As well as improving the major venues in the city such as the Sir John Guise Stadium, and Bisini Soccer field, the money will also be used to upgrade the fields and training facilities at schools around the National Capital District.

Minister for Sports, Justin Tkatchenko, says that all facilities will be improved, from the playing surface, to the building of change rooms and modernising existing available facilities.

The contractors currently working on the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium and the National Football Stadium are working along to FIFA guidelines to ensure they are built to international football standards.

The tournament will be staged in Port Moresby next year in November, and will attract 15 nations, playing in four pools.

Nine nations have confirmed so far, including PNG, with the remaining seven spots available to be decided in qualifiers currently being staged.
