The 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) will be held in Paris, France, from November 30 to December 11.
This conference is the official, international political response to climate change.
It is during this important meeting that an agreement has to be reached by the world leaders concerning the world’s climate; to achieve a binding and universal climate agreement to prevent the world’s temperature rising; by keeping global warming below 2 degrees celcius.
Thailand, a member who will be present at the summit, has announced it will propose a target to the COP 21 meeting to reduce 20 – 25% of greenhouse gas by 2030.
A meeting chaired by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister, Prawit Wongsuwan, was held on Thursday to finalise the country’s stand on climate change.
According to an official from the country’s Environment Ministry, the committee plans to submit the proposal for Cabinet’s approval next week before sending it to the Convention’s secretariat.
