Tahina Booth has been invited by the Papua New Guinean weightlifting federation to attend the recently held Pacific Games powerlifting national selection trials, here in Port Moresby.
Booth did not disappoint, setting the national record by lifting a massive 195kg in the 84kg dead-lift category.
She represented Australia during the Pacific international tournament last year and set the new Australian deadlift record of lifting 200kg in the same weight division. When asked if she can lift heavier weights than 200kg, she said that she was confident in bettering her record.
Booth is based in Sydney where she works and trains. She will be in training at the Sydney Clean health Gym with her coach.
When speaking with her from Sydney earlier, she said her goal is to better her record during the Games and she will do her best to win gold.
Booth is currently the strongest gold medal prospect for PNG’s powerlifting team.
