Capital Rugby Union on the Rise

By Shane Saroya – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

The Capital Rugby Union (CRU) has been around for over a decade, but in recent years the standard of competition has been in decline due to issues regarding playing facilities and the competition’s administration.

However, with the appointment of a new technical management team, the CRU is now headed in the right direction.

The CRU has been the feeder competition to the PNG national side and has the potential to improve the standard of the code.

Those involved with the sport believe that it will continue to grow in popularity here in PNG, but are happy to take things slowly for now.

As newly appointed President of the CRU, Jacob Anga is determined to bring change.

Since his appointment, the CRU has received government support and funding through both Minister for Sports, Justin Tkatchenko, and Labi Amaiu for the first time in a number of years.

With financial funding and newly upgraded facilities at Bava Park, the code is now in a position of advancement.
