Mining Emergency Response Challenge Awards Night

All mining and petroleum stakeholders have been urged to collectively work togther to deliver and maintain high standards of safety intheir duties.

 

Mining Minister, Beyon Chan, mentioned this duringthe awards presentation night for the National Mining and Emergency Response Challenge.

 

He said thoughthe country’s economy is dependent onthe mining sector, safety ofthe environment and people must not be compromised.

Petroleum company Oil Search was crowned overall winner ofthe National Mining Emergency Response Challenge 2013.

 

The mining sector since independence has beenthe mainstay ofthe country’s economy.

 

With over 60 per cent ofthe country’s annual total export revenue generated from it.

 

This revenue is generated atthe backdrop of increased awareness to safety tothe environment andthe people.

 

Minister Chan highlighted this at last night’s national Mining Emergency Response Challenge Awards night.

 

Earnings fromthe seven mines inthe country is set to increase, he said.

 

Bet a collective effort from all stakeholders is also required to ensure safety standards are maintained atthe highest levels.

 

The National Mining Emergency Response Challenge provides this avenue to maintain, improver and develop new safety and emergency response mechanisms.

 

Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of OK Tedi Mining Limited, Nigel Parker, told participants to embrace whatthey’ve learnt.

 

“Amongthe participantsthere was an all-female team from Newcrest Mining Limited, who demonstrated that women have an equal place inthe mining industry,” said ChiefInspector of Mines, Mohan Singh.

 

The country&#39’s only petroleum company, Oil Search, also participated.

 

They werethe overall winner ofthe challenge, scooping all major awards, includingthe title.
