Public Servants in Southern Highlands Province have being told to shape up or ship out.
Governor William Powi said this atthe close ofthe Southern Highlands Development Forum recently. He said poor performance has seenthe public service mechanism deteriorate over time.
Also present atthe forum was Minister for National Planning and Monitoring Charles Abel who listened in on discussions fromthe business community.
The business community was concerned of losing out to foreign enterprises.Inthe provincial capital Mendithere is a serious problem with cash flow. The locals rarely havethe buying power in shops becausethey do not havethe money.
The comment was seen as fair bythe governor William Powi. Bet he challenged his people to be receptive to change. The implementation ofthe provincial plan lies withthe public servants andthey must perform he said.
Minister for national Planning and Monitoring Charles Abel said all provincial plans must be integrated withthe national plans.
The procurement system he said must be tightened to ensure plans develop transform wealth tothe people.
