The Arts Centre Settlement behind Parliament House was demolished last Friday. Settlers were evicted following a court order served onthem by NCD Police.

The settlers now want to know wherethey will be relocated too asthey do not have any ther place to go.

Many grabbed whatthey could asthey were forced to demolishtheir properties in record time, underthe watchful eyes ofthe police.

It was deafening, as men, women, and children’smashed down sheets of metal and burnt whatthey could not carry.

A man burnt his own home, as he says he was only given a short time to vacatethe area. Another woman had to return from work when she received a call that her home was being destroyed. The settlers saythey were not given any warning ofthe imminent demolition.

The Arts Centre Settlement has been in existence for over twenty years.
