Almost twenty thousand villagers inthe East Kerema local level government inthe Gulf Province have been hit bythe heavy rains.
Homes, food gardens, water wells, toilet pits and feeder roads are all under water.
Community lLeadershave called onthe local level and provincial governments for assistance.
Community lLeadersfromthe Toaripi villages in East Kerema, Gulf Province came to EMTV with pictures ofthe devastated Toaripi villages.

They say almost twenty thousand people are affected;they are fromthe Lalapipi, Mirivase, Uritai, Isapeape, Kukipi, Hamuhamu and Lelefiru villages.
The floods were from heavy rain and up to a meter high. The Lakikamu River nearby is close to breaking its banks.
Chris Oasora, former deputy administrator of Central Province called onthe national and provincial disaster offices to go intothe villages and conduct an assessment and arrange relief.
The lLeaderssay people are going hungry and vulnerable to water borne diseases. The villages are currently feeding onthe remaining cassava and coconuts.
