The Department of Labour’s capacity building project is expected to get off the ground in Popondetta Northern Province soon.
An office complex and staff housing will be built under this project to effectively bring services to the people.

Minister for Labour Benjamin Poponawa was accorded a traditional welcome upon arrival at Girua Airport in Popondetta.
It was his first official visit as ministerial head of the department. Poponawa’s visit reaffirms the government’s commitment to improve the capacity of state agencies in delivering services to the people.
His department has already embarked on its capacity building project.
The pilot project will be in Popondetta. Land has already been acquired for an office complex and staff housing.
Chairperson of the project, Mary Morola, is keen to see the project get off the ground.
The project started in 2008 but funding constraints has hindered progress. But with K10 million allocated by the national government, it will soon come to reality.
Provincial Labour Officer Copeland Gewa says it is more than just capacity building.
Construction will take four months, with an estimated cost of K1.4 million.
