Local Level Government President, Sam Agi wants landowners to be more aggressive in addressing law and order problems in the area by imposing tougher penalties on troublemakers.
He wants them to be in dialogue with provincial authorities in addressing these problems. He says failure to do so has seen many lives lost, homes destroyed, and many people suffering on customary land.
Most clashes that have happened in Lae have been fuelled by the consumption of drugs and alcohol. Forty-eight houses were burnt at the Limki settlement last month.
Fighting in Lae’s back road resulted in houses being burnt inciting 5 deaths, one of which was a landowners’ son.

Lae police, on the other hand, have blamed lack of cooperation in reporting troublemakers to police.
The blame game now comes to light as Lae city move towards having more developments and provincial government taking every step it can to stop law and order problems.
