The law and order situation in Kagua Erave in the Southern Highlands Province, has been boosted with the deployment of 30 police personnel to this area, funded by the provincial government.
The work of these police personnel has further been enhanced with a funding of K10 million from the provincial government, to construct their houses.
This program was launched in Kagua last weekend by the governor, William Powi.
Kagua Erave in the Southern Highlands Province, is one of the least developed, because of the high level of law and order problems in the electorate.
Vital government services such as policing, is almost non-existent, and people live with constant fear of enemies. Tribal fights are widespread across the electorate.
Just last year, an enemy tribe dropped a grenade in a village, killing more than 20 people.
Governor Powi, while launching the police housing program in the electorate over the weekend, urged the residents to take heed of law and order.
He said the provincial government has allocated K5 million in this year’s budget for police housing in Kagua, and he will use another K5 million from IDG funds, to build these houses so law and order can be maintained there.
He also called on the community to look after police personnel that have been deployed to this electorate.
Local member, James Lagea, said he has money available for service delivery in the province, but urged his people to change their attitude by putting politics aside if they want to see services.
He also made a commitment to fund the purchase of a vehicle for the new police, to help them work efficiently.
