With the success of our female sports teams, and individual athletes over the years, there have been numerous development programs, being implemented around the country.
AFL PNG’s Niukick program also aims to attract more girls and young women to take up Aussie Rules.
Contact sporting codes such as Rugby League, Rugby Union, and Aussie Rules have always been male dominated. And in the past, the Men’s success has overshadowed the women’s.
The Niukick program aims to spark interest among young girls and women, to take up the sport of Aussie Rules. Most sports competitions around the country have evolved to adapting respective Girls and Women’s divisions.
And AFL has seen the Kurakums mark a tremendous milestone in 2007, when a bunch of girls for the first time, represented our country in AFL.
Port Moresby, being the Nation’s Capital, is seen as the hub of initiating programs such as Niukick, before launching the programs in interested centers where most raw talent hasn’t been tapped into yet.
