Police manpower in Daru, Western Province has decreased to a point where it can’t combat the gradual rise in law and order problems in the province.
Police Station Commander in Daru, Inspector, Sawa Ricker said, there are 28 police men on the ground.
He is in need of an additional 40 men to effectively deal with this growing law and order problem.
“It is not bad, but there is a gradual rise due to the influx of people moving into the province”, Ricker said.
Most of the new recruits deployed to the station have been withdrawn and are based in Kiunga.
This has not helped with the situation, he said.
There are also only five police officers manning the policemen administration.
He has appealed for support but has yet to get the attention he needs from his superiors.
“If nothing is done, law and order will explode”, he said.
