It has been a quiet festive season in the Nation’s Capital, police have reported no major traffic accidents, and the imposed liquor ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol, has had a positive change.
However, there have been casualties on our roads. And although they may not be of people in vehicles, they eventually become traffic hazards.
In this festive week alone, at least five stray dogs were killed, and seen lying beside main roads and even on Port Moresby’s main freeway.
While dogs may not be considered as important as human beings, pedestrians do face the unfortunate prospects of having to deal with the decaying corpses, which most times, are left untouched by the city’s authorities.
Most city residents are not hoping that the return to normal business hours will see uncollected Christmas garbage, and the corpses of rundown dogs, cleared from city streets.
Overall the city has seen a quiet Christmas this year.
