The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) is already in the midst of putting plans in place for media awareness leading up to and throughout the Summer Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Members of the PNGOC, Alex Davani and Andrew Lepani, outlined the roles of the commission and the need for appropriate information to be given out prior to the games in August.
With the Rio Olympics set to begin in just seven months time, the PNGOC has now embarked on an awareness campaign, through the media, to advertise and educate the public on their roles post-Pacific Games.
Current efforts by the PNGOC are focused towards seeing Team PNG achieve its goals.
Alex Davani of the PNGOC’s Athletes Commission also stressed that with the expansion of the organisation, their roles too had advanced. These roles also include Athlete Wellbeing and Development, Anti-Doping; Sport and Environment; HIV and AIDS Awareness and Gender Equality.
Other concepts that were introduced included the Olympic movement – which offers the athlete support to assist in raising the development of sport in PNG.
The Deputy Secretary General of the PNGOC, Andrew Lepani, highlighted this also.
