The Temporary Special Measures has been put forward now as a challenge for the Pacific Island Nations to implement, come 2016. This comes after Papua New Guinea played host to the Pacific Regional Conference, on Strengthening Women’s Participation in Parliaments.
This is because Pacific Island legislature, has recorded the lowest number of women in Parliament. A recommendation agreed on, was for this policy to be adopted to allow more women in parliament.
In the first two segments, we look at how the Pacific Island nations will be implementing the Temporary Special Measures to increase women’s participation in parliaments.
Papua New Guinea’s autonomous region, Bougainville and Samoa are two regions that have been implementing the Temporary Special Measures.
Pacific Island nations share their views how TSM works in their own countries.
