MPs Attend Health Program at Parliament

by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Members of Parliament, including Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, attended a free health awareness program yesterday at parliament house.

The awareness program was on lifestyle diseases and included a free medical check-up.

The program was carried out by non-government organisation, Hospital Poroman Foundation, Paradise Private Hospital and volunteers.

The campaign kicked off with a health talk from Dr Arnold Waine, a senior surgeon at the Port Moresby General Hospital. Dr Waine says lifestyle diseases are now a big threat, as people pay less attention to the basics of healthy living and eating the right amount food.

Dr Waine told parliamentarians that self-consciousness of what you do, who you talk to and what you eat may seem unrelated to one’s health but add up to being physically, mentally and spiritually fit.

Volunteer doctors and nurses from Paradise Private Hospital will conduct free check-ups for MPs and parliament staff today and tomorrow.

The theme for the awareness is ‘A Healthy Leader, a Healthy Nation’.

The awareness program ends tomorrow.
