Refugee in Manus hit with a piece of iron

A 42-year-old refugee in Manus is recovering from injuries to his forehead after he was assaulted by a local, last Saturday.

The victim, Ali Razami from Iran, is married to a local woman and resides at Ward Five, near the Manus Provincial Government Office.

Police say Razami was hit with a piece of iron on his right eye and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The perpetrator is known to police, and police are confident they will apprehend him soon.

Meanwhile, Manus Police boss, Chief Inspector David Yapu, has encouraged locals to respect refugees who have married local women.
