Police Supervision Training

By Julie Badui Owa – EMTV News, Lae

The Royal PNG Constabulary’s (RPNGC) Internal Affairs Directorate is conducting workshops in the country with the help of the Australian Federal Police to reintroduce good discipline in the Constabulary.

Director of Internal Affairs Chief Superintendent, Robert Ali, who facilitated a three-day course in Lae yesterday, said this is to address ethical practices and minimise issues of police misbehaviour affecting the RPNGC.

19 senior police supervisors from the Lae Metropolitan Command graduated yesterday on discipline procedures after completing the training.

The Director for Internal Affairs, Chief Superintendent Robert Ali, said allegations of police brutality and ill-disciplined behavior has affected the operations of the Constabulary.

These workshops that are being conducted by the internal affairs directorate, aim to address these issues in the police force.

They are targeting the senior officers, who will be leading commands.

Police officers file and rank can only be promoted if the officers have a stable and discipline character.

Chief Superintendent Ali said officers are selected by their supervisors, which the training was focused on.

Ali said it was identified that there was disconnection between the supervisors and the frontline officers that has caused discipline problems.

This training is in line with what the frontline officers are undertaking on leadership and supervision that will end next week.

Four senior policewomen were among those supervisors who graduated yesterday.
