High Performance Centre Scouting for High School Talent

Since the establishment of the Talent Identification (TID) program, PNG High Performance Centre has identified young and upcoming athletes of the future.

Today, carrying out the program in search of more talents, in local communities, HP is now running TIDs for high school students, where over 200 have been screened.

High Performance Manager Cornelius Papau, said recently the Talent ID program has been extended into Universities.

Papau said last year’s PNG Games in Kimbe saw a TID program run concurrently with PNG Games that turned out to be a success, as raw talents were recognised.

” We try to develop talent who can also support themselves after their sporting career has ended,” Papau told EMTV Sports.

PNG High Performance Initially stepped in as a strength and conditioning and sports medicine assistance team to support 2015 Pacific Games athletes before branching out to now running its TID, and coaching clinics for athletes and coaches.

Now working in partnership with PNGOC, Papau said the main objective of the program is not only to identify talented individuals as future representatives for the country, but also to create better citizens.

PNGHP is now in talks with tertiary institutions and schools around the country to have their organisations involved.
