More time for Boxing Fiji to finalise squad for Pacific Game

Boxing Fiji has requested until the end of this month to finalise their squad for the Pacific Games.

Team Fiji chef de mission, Cathy Wong, said the national federation has made the request to allow them time to fulfil the financial obligations required by Team Fiji. Wong said by then, Fiji Boxing would also send their final squad by that time.

The association is yet to publicise who their teams consists of although Coach Pauliasi Ratu’s appointment was announced.

It is believed that Ratu will be accompanied by Manager, Ajay Bhai Amrit. While the selected squad is training, a number of boxing clubs have raised concerns on the boxers who have been selected.

Jittu Stable Trainer, Marika Yalimaiwai, said he believed the right boxers have not been chosen.

“My female boxers have taken the matter to the Prime Minister on disappointments of learning female boxers were dropped off the team.

Uptown Boxing Gym coordinator Sebastian Singh said the trial was a scam and the squad had been pre-selected. He said his boxers were not awarded the fight even when he dropped his opponent three times,” he said.

“If the new administration continues to behave this way, then boxers would not be interested in representing the country and believe me they want to”.

Fiji Boxing Association is yet to respond to queries regarding the above matter.
