Guise to Use Singapore 7s as Trial and Error for PNG Pukpuks

By Lorraine Genia – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

The InterOil Turagus will make their debut appearance offshore, at the Singapore 7s this weekend.

A team filled with both youth and exhilarating talent will be led by a mass of experience in skipper, Tissa Kautu, and Coach, Douglas Guise.

While a win is what the rugby following here in PNG wants, Guise aims to worry least about results, and return instead with more experience for those who will be heading to Singapore as part of the squad.

The development squad has not only provided an avenue to up-skill much of the untapped talent available, but will also act as a feeder team into the national Pukpuks side.

Guise will be using the Singapore 7s to test out combinations of players, and give them the much-needed exposure which might prove vital, with much of the regular national squad sidelined with injuries.

Stanis Susuve, Billy Torea and Manu Guise return to national duties under the stewardship of Tisa Kautu and Butler Morris, while one of the newest faces to rugby sevens in PNG, Samoan born and bred Koroseta Veni, will make an exciting appearance in the Red, Black and Gold.

While the draws are yet to be released for the weekend’s tournament, the Turagus are expecting tough competition from across the Asian continent.
