Japanese aid body’s, Japanese International Cooperative Agency, plans for the redevelopment of Lae City will need funding from the National Government.
Morobe Provincial Government planners fear that political instability and lack of foresight may slow the building process.
Yesterday, the JICA team had handed over the Phase One Plan to the Morobe Provincial Administration.
JICA’s plans are for the Lae-Nadzab urban redevelopment. But, there are challenges ahead, the plan spans nearly 50 years.
Morobe Planning Advisor, Francis Japu, says there is support from aid donors and Morobe does have growing internal revenue. This revenue flow is because of business expansion generating the much needed cash.
” The government will definitely be committing on some of the plans and not all of them. But we are optimistic also, because we have already discussed these plans with our stakeholders,” Mr. Japu said.
The JICA teams of experts have handed over their office to the Morobe Provincial government and say the plan must be followed.
