Papua New Guinea’s request for Pope Francis to visit the country was delivered by Cardinal John Ribat.
“I mentioned to him and repeated to him, that the people of Papua New Guinea invite you and wish to see you among their presence. At the same time also, the Government of Papua New Guinea, is also inviting you and we are looking forward to seeing you,” Cardinal Ribat said.
In his final audience with Pope Francis, Cardinal Ribat said the Pope had the same answer and told him that he had read about his interview with Radio Vatican.
“He told me, he read about my interview with Radio Vatican,” he said.
Meanwhile Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill requested for Pope Francis to visit Papua New Guinea. But indicated it would be good after 2018.
This was also supported by other government leaders.
At the meantime, Pope Francis has appointed the cardinal as a parish priest, at the Saint John Baptist de Rossi in Rome.
