The United States squad remain positive of better results ahead of their crucial second match encounter against New Zealand.
USA Head Coach, Michelle French, says that while their opening draw against France was disappointing, the squad is still hoping to make it into the quarterfinals after today.
The experience of having arrived in Papua New Guinea in May, for the Tri-Nations series has had a positive impact on the United States, according to coach Michelle French.
Whilst it had been a rather disappointing draw against France on Match Day 2, held at the PNG Football STaduim, Michelle French remains positive that her team will have a far better performance before meeting New Zealand tonight.
Both New Zealand and the United States will be looking for wins, Group C remains wide open at the moment with only two competition points separating all four teams.
And a loss, or a draw could place the Americans under a huge amount of pressure heading into their final encounter against Ghana.
For French and her side though, they remain positive in their approach and are looking to press hard, against an organised New Zealand team.
French is a former U.S international and 2000 olympic silver medallist, and has assembled a talented group of young players for this world cup.
One of those players, is 18 year old Mallory Pugh who has already had 23 number of caps for the side, with 17 goals to her name already.
USA face New Zealand at the PNG Football Stadium at 7pm tonight.

You forgot to mention that Mal Pugh is a regular starter in the USWNT lineup. She is so talented that she took only a couple of months to break into the senior women’s team something that takes at least a year for other highly talented women.
