The immigration task force team arrested 22 Beangladesh nationals in several raids this afternoon in Lae.
They also uncovered multiple instances where Papua New Guineas working in foreign owned shops were being paid well belowthe minimum wage.
Also inthe vehicle arethe Beangladesh and Chinese nationals who were arrested about an hour before in Bemayong.
The Chinese spoke relatively good “tok pisin” and said his passport and work permit were with his boss. His boss had fled minutes beforethe team arrived.
The Chinese boss argued that because water, power and accommodation were provided free, he was paying Papua New Guinea workers well belowthe minimum wage.
There will be a major operation conducted bythe Task Force team in Lae city which will coverthe whole of Morobe province.
The team arrived on Tuesday andthey’ll be conducting raids in various parts of Lae city and laterthey’ll expand to ther parts inthe Morobe province.
