Police Department Allocates Funds to Complete Unfinished Police Houses

The Police department has allocated funds to the contractor engaged to build houses at Lae’s Bumbu police barracks, to complete those unfinished police houses.

ACP for Northern Region, Peter Guiness, says work on the houses are supposed to start already.

Guiness is yet to find out why the contractor engaged has not yet commenced building.

The ACP for northern region, at this time, does not know who the contractor is, and the amount of money allocated to the company.

Instead, work on the refurbishment of three houses for commissioned officers has already begun.

The Bumbu Police Barracks housing program began in 2012 at the cost of K2.5million. The program was initiated to ease the RPNGC housing problem.

In April, Police Commissioner, Gari Baki, told EMTV News that the construction was left incomplete as funding was held in a trust account.

The department had to transfer the funds to a new account under the modernisation funding.

Last week, the police Commissioner, Gari Baki, said the funds have been allocated.

However, now in September, the contractors have yet to begin work.
