The National Executive Council has approved two submissions for the Works Department.
One is the National Network Strategy and other, the Department Reforms.
Minister responsible, Michael Nali, says the reforms will be a key changer in the process of maintaining and building roads, in districts and provinces, and that the Department will be responsible for all roads but Districts must take ownership of projects.
Works Minister says one of the new reforms is to restore Provincial Transport Boards. This will see the Works Department having its officers engaged in Districts to provide technical assistance.
Under the reforms, Talasea District is now the first, to partner with the Works Department, to implement the Reforms. Talasea MP, Francis Maneke, says the partnership will be helpful in rehabilitating road network.
West New Britain Governor, Sasindran Muthuvel, believes that the more roads are prioritized, more revenue will be generated for the province and country’s economy. A Memorandum of Agreement was signed to signify the partnership between Works Department, West New Britain Provincial Government, and Talasea District.
