Work begin on Mesime Water Project

Mesime Village at 14-mile outside Port Moresby welcomedthe launch of a Clean Drinking water project on Friday last week.

The one hundred and fifty thousand kina project is under SP Brewery’s community social responsibility. This project is SP Brewery’s first and is expected to be complete in June.

The project will get offthe ground this week. A small group of Mesime villagers gthered to withnessthe official launching ofthe projectowhich coincided withWorld Water Day

Beroko Rotary Club has engaged two female engineers who will overseethe project. Rotary supports three main areas; access to clean water is one ofthem.

The water will be brought from a spring located three and a half kilometers fromthe village.

Olive Gaba said althoughthey reside next to many water sources likethe river here, it is not safe for drinking. For years,the people have been boiling water collected fromthe river for consumption.

Ten taps will be set up here inthe main village, while one will be set up acrossthe bridge.
