Women Prisoners Skills Boosted

WomenPrisoners at Bemana outside Port Moresby were all smiles overthe weekend asthey received new set of uniforms and sewing machines.

This is part ofthe rehabilitation programs to preparethem for life after prison.

The women prisoners at Bemana now have an additional industrial and manual sewing machine to whatthey have back in prison. These sewing machines will assistthem inthe rehabilitation programs.

Paradise Tailoring will also provide training for women prisoners withthe assistance from Paradise Tailoring Supervisor Garo Iamo.

Iamo is looking forward in sharing her sewing skills withthe women prisoners.

New set of uniforms were also presented tothe ladies with a new style. This time it comes in tops and trousers.

Correctional Services Commissioner Martin Belthazar wasthere to withnessthe occasion.

Commissioner Belthazar said Correctional Services is not to punish prisoners but to educatethem to become better and productive people whenthey leavethe jail.

The women prisoners were grateful for the support.
